Our first show of 2010 will be a Veteran's Benefit in Bakersfield. We'll be playing an extended hour set at midnight, and throwing in a few fun covers as well. We're celebrating 10 years together this year, and we have plans to play each of our hometowns(Detroit, Pittsburgh and Indiana this summer) but our next show will be at our favorite biker bar in the Valley:

Also this year, in addition to writing and performing new songs for our next studio album, we will be releasing "Duende" our first DVD, featuring live footage, a documentary, and various music videos. We'll keep you posted on when the release party is (it's looking like September/October) but until then we'll see you at Bakersfield and then Tarzana!

Monday August 24th at 9:30 PM @ The Key Club we'll be playing with the mighty Steel Panther, who for those of you who don't know, are one of the most entertaining live bands you'll ever see. In addition to being great musicians and excellent performers, they are all also hilarious comedians, and their affectionate parody of 80's metal, ensures that the Key Club is packed every Monday night with a crowdmost places would kill for on a Saturday! We have 50 free spots on the guest list, so the first 50 people to e-mail us or call our hotline @213-840-3333 and give us their names will get in FREE. After that, we'll have a limited number of discount tickets for 10 bucks each, and admission is 20.00 at the door. This show is 18 and over. We'll be playing a brand new song at the show. and a song from the new album that only those at the warmup show have ever heard us do live. See ya there!

DAME FORTUNE ON THE RADIO and INTERVIEWS:

We've been getting more and more radio airplay around the world. Some recent adds include: Maximum FX UK who said:

DAME FORTUNE - ALBUM - THE SECRET ART
"They sound quite blusey with a hint of old school rock, its like the kind of thing UFO are doing now. I am playing on the show 'In Like Fynn' and 'The Days are Just Packed'."

Radio Aktief - 107.6 FM in Belgium played "Good For What Ails You" and "Perpetual Emotion Machine" on their show "Overdrive"

Tracks from the new CD "The Secret Art" also were played on Activ Radio in France

In addition look for WXOU Radio in Michigan to be spinning "Holly Fenton" and "Perpetual Emotion Machine" when they interview our own John Merritt live on the air this Sunday August 2nd at 9:30 am EST, as well as in interview with David Blake in the next issue of the UK based Fireworks magazine!

Tuesday the 14th at the newly opened Guitar Center Studios in Woodland Hills we'll be playing a warmup show that isfree to everyone and all ages with our good friend Glen Pavan and the Future Villain Band at 7:30 PM.

So that's it. We're working on some new songs for the set list to keep things exciting like: a song from the Secret Art we've NEVER played live,
and a new song that promises to be a classic new rock anthem. We'll see you all next Tuesday for the warmup show, and in August for the big
event!

And last but not least, check out yet another postive review here.

Reviews, More Airplay, A Big Show and More Reviews

A bunch of new reviews of The Secret Art are coming in, most of them very positive with the possible exception of this one. Here are some excerpts: (For all of the full review go here.)

1.Songs like "Perpetual Emotion Machine", "Good for What Ails You" and especially "I Only Miss You When I Breathe" are an absolute blast. -Justin Gaines, Hard Rock Haven

2.Formulas sometimes work best when they are at their simplest. Dame Fortune makes good hard rock. Neither very retro, nor too modern, but at their most straight ahead they will entertain the ears of those who adore this musical style. Highlights "A Special Place," "V for Vendetta," and "Hikikomori (Live As Though the Day Were Here, " represent the spirit of the disc to my ears. If you're looking for a good group without too many pretentious ideas, but with the simplicity and purity of great glam metal, Dame Fortune and "The Secret Art" are for you. -Lucas Gordon, eportaldelmetal (translated)

3.DAME FORTUNE arrive too late for some, but for fans of KISS, KIX, KEEL, WASP and such, they should well be checked out. Their new CD is titled 'The SecretArt' and from start to finish this is Hardrock the way it should sound like. Be prepared for only uptempo rockers here, rocking hard and right in your face. Fans of 1970s ACE FREHLEY KISS will be amazed by the soundalike song "The days are just packed."

-Gabor Kleinbloesem, Strutter zine

4.Dame Fortune is a fairly new band that brings a great old school classic rock vibe with just a touch of Goth when it comes to look and lyrics. I wasn't sure what to expect from them, but after listening to this album these songs are darn catchy. I found myself singing "If You Will Not When You May (You May Not When You Will)" just the other day!

The band lists KISS are one of their influences, that's definitely apparent on songs like "Perpetual Emotional Machine" and "Hikikomori (Live As Though The Day Were Here)".

In addition to KISS, there's also a Slade vibe I'm picking up from the band and their song "Santa Ana Blues" sounds like an earlier Alice Cooper song, but the album isn't all like that. The band shows that they can get heavier with mean rockers like "A Special Place" and "V for Vendetta".

I definitely gotta recommend this for fans of classic hard rock.

Highlights: "In Like Flynn", "Perpetual Emotion Machine", "If You Will Not When You May (You May Not When You Will)", "A Special Place", "V for Vendetta", "Santa Ana Blues", "Secret Rulers (Of The World To Be)", "Good For What Ails You" -Justin Walden,Metal Excess (Full Review)

5.'The Secret Art' is the band's latest effort and has shown the band solidify their sound even more since I heard them last. The band's sound to me is retro in alot of ways. To me it reminds me a bit of music from the 70's in their approach, yet has a more modern sound. Apparently with this release, the band actually had all of the band members try vocals and it seems to work pretty well. I also think that it's important to mention that the band also puts alot of effort into the story of the album. Great story and cool catchy sound with this!-Heavy Metal Resource

Coming soon, more reviews from Britain, Serbia, and beyond!

And both "V for Vendetta," and "Holly Fenton," have made the airwaves on Raadio 2 in Estonia!

Meanwhile, we just confirmed a HUGE show we've been trying to lock down for some time coming up on August 24th! And the first 50 people to RSVP will get in FREE! More details to follow.

Finally Dave has been editing together the live footage from the CD release show, and Jeff and Dave have been working together to make over our rehearsal space into one where we can instantly record to multi-track all of our rehersals and songwriting sessions!

Dame Fortune thanks all the Soldiers of Dame Fortune who came out to support the live CD release show at Club Vodka. You made this our biggest and most successful show yet. The best is yet to come!

THIS IS THE BIG ONE:

It's been over 4 years since our last CD, "Both Sides of Midnight," and the live CD release party that went with it. Those that attended know that we pulled out all the stops to make that show something really special. Well, after years of blood, sweat and tears, our new CD, "The Secret Art," is finally done, and from the few advance copies that have leaked out, the response has been unanimous: it is our best CD yet, so you better believe we're gonna make the night we release it a night to remember!
If you go to one Dame Fortune show this year, make this the one. Tell your friends. And tell them to tell their friends, because we will be filming the show and recording it for a future live CD/DVD that will come out next year. In addition to all the special surprises we're planning for this show, there will be the 3 simultaneous stages of the best hard rock acts out there including 80's metal veterans Keel, drink specials, go-go dancers, giveaways, and all the hard rock madness that only Club Vodka could bring to Hollywood. For half off discount tickets call us at 213-840-3333. If you're 18 and older, come celebrate with us Saturday January 31st at Club Vodka at The Knitting Factory on the Mainstage at 9:00pm @7021 Hollywood Blvd. We'll see you there!

THE STORY OF THE SECRET ART
Copyright 2008 by David Blake Lucarelli

It is a cool January day, late afternoon. Restless, you decide to go for a long walk to clear your head. Lost in your thoughts, you find you have wandered into an unfamiliar part of town far from home. The sun is going down, but before you turn around to go back you find yourself drawn into a small shop of antique curios.
There is a set of talismans, a golden ring, a mummified animal's paw, a wooden cup, a small tin lamp, and at the end of the last shelf in the back of the store a small slim silver puzzle box that catches your eye. The strangely dressed store clerk with the long black hair assures you the mechanical device is in perfect working order despite being tarnished underneath. All that's necessary to unlock its treasure is to insert the proper key.
"However", he adds," the box comes with a warning, "Whoever opens it will never again be the same. "
Intrigued, you buy the box for a mere twelve dollars and are halfway out the door when you realize the clerk has not given you the key.
"Of course," he says, as he removes a small ornate key on a silver chain from around his own neck and hands it to you. "Enjoy," he says, "but remember the warning."
You can't help but laugh a little to yourself as you begin to head home at the day's events. The puzzle box will make a nice conversation piece on your living room shelf: a lost relic from a bygone era. You probably won't ever open it; no need to. It probably doesn't work anymore anyhow. These are the things you tell yourself as you walk back home blissfully unconcerned, holding the puzzle box tightly in one hand, and clutching the key in the other.
It is a dark and moonless night when you finally return home. You place the puzzle box on the shelf as you intended and as an afterthought ponder what to do with the key.
Absentmindedly you toss it into the trash and prepare for bed.
The night is endless. You toss and turn, half awake and half in a fever dream, but find no peace or solace. All of a sudden in the middle of the night you sit up straight, wide-awake, heart pounding in a cold sweat. You get up, run to the living room, retrieve the key from the wastebasket and without hesitation, insert it into the silver box.
Almost immediately you hear the sound of tiny gears starting to turn. A liquid starts to pour out from your purchase. No, you are mistaken; it is two distinct liquids. One is deep crimson, blood red; surely it is blood itself coagulating around the lock in the center of the box. Strangely, it seems to form the shape of a heart around the keyhole. The other liquid sizzles as it escapes from a crack in the lid. It is a burning white-hot liquid metal that pours forth from the box.
At the same time your ears are enveloped by a powerful all encompassing noise that seems to come from everywhere at once. Thunderous and commanding, majestic and passionate, dark and soulful, it is what you hear that tells you the wizard's prophecy was right. You will never again be the same.
And in that moment, you have an epiphany. The blood from inside the box is your blood. The heart is your heart. The metal is your metal. You realize all along you never had a choice; that when you first bought the silver box you had already set the wheel in motion. You had already turned the key that would unlock the very voice of fate itself: the sound of Dame Fortune. This is the Secret Art.
